  4. For use with IBM/MS DOS 3.30-5.00, or in a DOS session under IBM OS/2 2.0;
  5. preferably at least 380 K free memory,

  7. This zipfile, FWKCS118.ZIP, contains the complete FWKCS(TM) Contents_Signature
  8. System, Version 1.18, including executable assembly_language programs,
  9. documentation, and supporting human_interface programs, with additional
  10. programs to carry out the installation procedures.  FWKCS provides many
  11. valuable functions, including finding duplicate files, automatically
  12. screening files uploaded to an electronic bulletin board system, and remote
  13. searching for files. It provides a pair_wise statistical error rate typically
  14. less than one part per trillion.

  16. As a BBS user, would you like to get the remote Lookup capability to help you
  17. find files and avoid duplicate uploads?  If you do not wish to install the
  18. FWKCS system on your own computer at this time, you can do these two steps:
  19.  
  20.             PKUNZIP FWKCS118.ZIP <enter>, and then  GETLOOK <enter>.
  21.  
  22. After that, for direct help, type LOOKUP /* <enter>  and  RCROSREF /* <enter>.
  23. More detailed information is given in LOOKUP.DOC. See REGISTER.DOC for
  24. information about registering your copy of FWKCS(TM) and about how to get new
  25. versions.

  29. To Replace FWKCS Ver. 1.12 Or Later:

  31. If you are replacing an existing FWKCS system, Version 1.12 or later, which
  32. is in good working order, copy FWKCS118.ZIP into an empty directory, go
  33. there, unzip FWKCS118.ZIP, and run REPLACE.

  35.     Important: run REPLACE in the same directory with FWKCS118.ZIP.

  39. How to Install the FWKCS(TM) Contents_Signature System, Ver. 1.18.
  40. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  41. To run the installation procedure for the FWKCS(TM) Contents_Signature
  42. System, Version 1.18, you need on your PATH at least the following
  43. ("*" denotes shareware; if you are missing any of the * pieces, see Note 2,
  44. below, for a way you might get them as no_fee downloads):
  45.  
  46.     * Phil Katz's PKUNZIP(R), Version 1.10 or later
  47.  
  48.       And, if you are replacing version 1.12 or later of FWKCS, and
  49.       wish to keep the old macros, you need a version of QBASIC,
  50.       GWBASIC, BASICA, or BASIC, suitable for use on your system.
  51.  
  52.       If your operating system permits you to defragment files, you may
  53.       benefit from running a file defragmentation program after installing
  54.       FWKCS, e.g., Peter Norton's Speed Disk.
  55.  
  56. And for use later, you should have also
  57.  
  58.     * Phil Katz's PKZIP(R), Version 1.10 or later
  59.  
  60.     * McAfee's SCAN
  61.  
  62.     * Vernon Buerg's LIST
  63.  
  64. Before intalling FWKCS for the first time:
  65.  
  66.     to prevent accidental double_counting of files, go over your system
  67.     carefully and make sure either (easy way) that there is no case in which
  68.     the same physical file is reached by two different paths (check all your
  69.     ASSIGN and SUBST commands), or (this is more complicated) that you know
  70.     of all such cases: if you need to use duplicate paths, see Note 1, below;
  71.  
  72. then do:
  73.  
  74.     PKUNZIP FWKCS118.ZIP <enter>
  75.  
  76.     INSTALL <enter>
  77.  
  78. and then follow the instructions on the screen. INSTALL is used in the same
  79. directory with FWKCS118.ZIP.
  80.  
  81.                Note 1: if you need to have extra path(s) to the same file(s),
  82.                        then later, when you get to the screen which says
  83.                        "Menu for installation" in the upper left corner, use
  84.                        option 5; when S_SETUP is turned over to you for use,
  85.                        study the screen carefully, and leave out (or exclude)
  86.                        the extra path(s) when you specify what to include in
  87.                        the search.

  89. INSTALL will do preliminary setup steps, bring out the GO installation
  90. program, and then start GO.
  91.  
  92. GO is an interactive program. Take your time. Read each screen slowly and
  93. carefully. Follow the instructions for making a printed record. The "Menu
  94. for installation" screen is part of GO. After the automatic installation
  95. has finished running, the printed record will tell you how and where to
  96. get on_line help.
  97.  
  98. On a large system, the automatic procedure can take hours to run. If you
  99. are using drives which have slow access to files, it can take many hours.
  100.  
  101. The special .BAT programs to help you find duplicate files are installed in
  102. the \CS directory. You can go there and type CSM <enter>, to bring up the
  103. CS on_line_help Menu.
  104.  
  105. The general_use programs are installed in the \CSA Contents_Signature
  106. Activity Place; you should put the \CSA directory on your PATH. You can go
  107. there and type CSAM <enter>, to bring up the CSA on_line_help Menu.

  111.     P.S.: After you have tested this software for up to 30 days, register
  112.           your copy of FWKCS as explained in REGISTER.DOC, which normally
  113.           will be available in your \CSA directory.

  115.           And, please do not remove Dr. Kantor's Authenticity Verification
  116.           stamp from the FWKCS118.ZIP zipfile.
